Scott Hemond
Scott Hemond believes that diligence and hard work are the cornerstones of success. He
worked very hard during his 11-year carrer. He has competed with, and against the best of the
best players, such as Manny Ramirez, Ivan Rodriguez, Jose Canseco, Mark McGwire, Ricky
Henderson, Dennis Eckersley, Frank Thomas, Ozzie Smith, Carlton Fisk, Barry Bonds,
Sammy Sosa, and Randy Johnson.
Scott has been instructed by Hall-of-Famer’s, such as Rreggie Jackson and Robin Roberts.
During his professional career, Scott was managed by Joe Torre and Tony LaRussa. Scott
played as a catcher and utility player in the Major League for the Oakland Athletics, St.
Louis Cardinals, and the Chicago White Sox.
During his high school carrer, Scott was the two-time winner of the Pinellas County
Conference Award for Pitching (1982-83). He was Player of the Year for the Pinellas
County Conference in 1983. Scott attended college at the University of South Florida,
where he won the Inter-Continental Cup MVP (1985). He also has the honor of being
one of only two retired numbers at USF. Starting in 1986 Scott was a member of the
prestigious Cape Cod League. During this time he became the Cape Cod League
Batting Champion. Scott was a first-round draft pick for the 1986 Oakland Athletics.
The same year, he was a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award (equivalent to the Heisman Trophy). He
was a two-time Minor League All-Star in 1987 and 1989. Scott was a member of the 1989 World Series Oakland A’s team.
1991 saw Scott as the Oakland A’s Fall League MVP. The next year, Scott was a member of the Puerto Rican League and the
All-Star Game MVP. In 1994 he set the Oakland A’s franchise record for Most Stolen Bases By A Catcher .
More recently, Scott was inducted into the Cape Cod League Hall-of-Fame in 2007. He previously coached the Pryor Middle
School baseball team, and is currently the coach for the Emerald Coast Vipers and the Panhandle Thunder travel baseball
teams.
